Our Services

What we offer

Couples Therapy

As humans we are hardwired for connection, and our committed relationships are some of the most important and influential in our lives. Our therapists help couples navigate a variety of relationship challenges, including conflict and disconnection, intimacy issues, major life transitions, and recovery from affairs. We also offer premarital counseling for couples considering marriage.

Adolescent Therapy

Our independent practitioners recognize that adolescence presents special challenges. The therapists work to foster a relationship with the adolescent, and to help parents, caregivers, and family members to find a way forward together. Special challenges include social anxiety, school performance issues, depression, and crisis of self-identity. A history of trauma can also begin to impact the adolescent in new ways. Our therapists are also sensitive to issues of suicidal ideation. The therapist cannot treat a child of divorce or separation without a copy of divorce or custody paperwork for children of living in single parent for blended families. Therapy is the focus of the therapists of Turning Point Counseling, not going to court or involving legal disputes. None of these therapists offer forensic counseling.

Child Therapy

Our independent practitioners work to provide a safe environment for children and their caregivers to discuss the issues which are causing problems in the lives of children. In child therapy, they work to build trust with children through play and seek to address the issues during these times. The work of counseling is to address the needs of the child as well as the family and offer solutions regarding stress/anxiety, trauma, depression, ADHD, as well as other issues. The therapist cannot treat a child of divorce or separation without a copy of divorce or custody paperwork for children of living in single parent for blended families. Play is a child’s language, the toys in the playroom are the words a child uses to express their inner experiences and how they perceive and interpret the world. Through play, children speak to the therapist and communicate their inner thoughts and feelings. During play therapy sessions, themes emerge in the child’s play, giving the therapist insight into the child’s experiences, thoughts, feelings, and interpretations of their world. The process of play becomes the vehicle for healing change. If you are experiencing the following problems, you might consider play therapy:

• ADD/ADHD

• Address issues of confidentiality in treating children

• Art or expressive therapies

• Child centered play therapy vs directed therapy

• Child centered therapy

• Children from ages 3-17

• Children in foster care/adoptions

• Depression

• Mild Autism Spectrum Disorder

• Oppositional defiance

• Parenting support/training

• School problems/acting out behavior

Psychological Testing

These evaluations usually include an initial appointment to gather information that will aid in determining what type of psychological tests should be utilized. A psychological evaluation may include some or all of the following: an intelligence test, an achievement test, a computer-based attention test, personality tests, a psychological interview, and rating scales completed by parents, teachers, or significant others. Specialized testing for autism spectrum disorder includes additional testing, as does testing for pre-surgical patients.

Hypnosis, EMDR & Brainspotting

If you’ve experienced a traumatic or disturbing life event that is causing you problems in every day functioning, therapy can help. There are various therapeutic approaches that can be used when helping those who suffer from trauma. Two of these approaches are described below.

STEPHEN WILLIS ON HYPNOSIS:

Stephen Willis has been working in hypnotherapy for more than 25 years. He is a member of the American Society of Hypnotherapy (ASCH) and the Society of Clinical and Experimental Hypnosis (SCEH). He has trained and supervised graduate students and professional therapists in the use of hypnosis.

Hypnosis or trance is a natural process. People go into a trance when they daydream, listen to a fascinating or really boring speech or get all involved in their music. Most people enter what is called naturalized trance about every 90 minutes or so. Hypnotherapy is psychotherapy that takes place in a trance. It can speed up the process of dealing with issues and has the added benefit that once a client learns to enter a hypnotic state, they can utilize that skill after they leave therapy.

Stephen utilizes hypnosis with a variety of issues:

  • Habits

  • IBS

  • Phobias

  • Sleep problems

  • Stress and anxiety disorders

  • Trauma and PTSD

RACHEL GRAVES ON EMDR:

I utilize EMDR to treat trauma and PTSD. EMDR is a gentle and compassionate approach to treating trauma and has been proven through extensive clinical research to heal the mind from psychological trauma, symptoms, and emotional distress. Both the protocol and the bilateral stimulation contribute to simultaneous activation of previously disconnected elements of neural, mental, and interpersonal processes. This activation primes our neural system to achieve new levels of integration.

Individual Therapy

Just as every person is unique, so are the paths they tread. Our experienced therapists offer a safe and confidential space where you can explore your thoughts, feelings, and challenges. Through one-on-one sessions, we work alongside you to navigate life's complexities. Whether you're facing anxiety, depression, relationship issues, or seeking clarity in your life, our individual therapy sessions are tailored to your needs. We believe that healing begins with understanding, and our compassionate therapists are dedicated to helping you find your inner strength and resilience.
